About Chiropractic Care

What is the Chiropractic Philosophy?

The Chiropractic Philosophy is based on the principle that the human body has an innate power to heal and restore its own health.  The Chiropractic approach to health is holistic, recognizing that many factors affect health. Exercise, rest, stress, diet, environment, family history and heredity are a few of the most common factors.  Chiropractic focuses on helping the body maintain its own health so it can resist disease. Chiropractic also focuses on treating the person as a whole individual.  This approach is different than traditional medicine, which views the body in a mechanical way, using outside interventions, often drugs and surgery, to treat the symptoms of diseases. While that has its function and purpose, the philosophy of Chiropractic is to allow the body's own built-in healing system to function completely and uninterrupted so the problems do not begin in the first place or they are healed at the root of the problem, thus resolving the symptoms.

What is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic is the largest natural health profession in the world.  It is a safe, noninvasive, non-surgical, drug-free therapeutic approach to optimal health. Chiropractic is a healing discipline firmly grounded in science. The main focus is on the relationship between the spine and the nervous system that runs through it, as well as the joints and muscles.    It is founded on the philosophy that good health depends on a healthy, well-functioning nervous system and that interference in this system can lead to a variety of problems such as back pain, headaches, neck pain, numbness and tingling. Many problems can be and illness can be traced back to problems with the spine.

Central to the Chiropractic treatment program is a twofold approach consisting of (1) diagnostic methods including x-rays,a full history, and (2) the adjustment or manipulation of the spinal joints to correct nerve interference and restore optimum health.

Chiropractors correct something called a subluxation. A subluxation is a misalignment of a spinal joint causing interference and impairment of normal nerve flow. Each vertebra in your spine has a nerve that exits through that vertebrae. When there is a subluxation or simply a misalignment that does not allow that nerve to communicate freely, we experience muscle spasms, pain, headaches, numbness and numerous other problems.  When the body cannot function to its full potential and these subluxations are not corrected, it can impair your immune system (your body's ability to fight disease), as well as concentration, sleep, digestion, every system in your body.

Chiropractors gently correct these misalignments using a technique called a spinal adjustment. An adjustment is a quick and painless repositioning of these joints by the Chiropractor using the hands. These adjustments restore the proper positioning of the spinal column, joints and nerve flow which restores the body's ability to function optimally to restore health.

What Causes Subluxations?

Subluxations are caused by many factors. Trauma from birth, falls, injury, repetitive motions which strains joints, pregnancy and sports and just gradual wear and tear from things like poor posture and long commutes are just a few.
